FAQs

Q1: What is the primary function of the PFEA112-65?
It is a tension electronics unit that provides excitation to Pressductor load cells, processes the returned signals, and outputs analog tension values. It is specifically designed for web tension control in paper, film, foil, textile, and printing applications, ensuring material is held at consistent tension throughout the production process.
Q2: What is the difference between the PFEA112-65 and PFEA112-20?
The -65 suffix indicates an IP65 sealed enclosure designed for wall or machine mounting in harsh environments (dust, moisture, washdown). The -20 suffix is the IP20 DIN-rail version for installation inside a control cabinet.
Q3: Does the PFEA112-65 support PROFIBUS-DP communication?
Yes. The PFEA112-65 is the PROFIBUS-DP variant of the PFEA112 series. It uses the GSD file ABB_0716.GSD for configuration and allows tension values and diagnostics to be transmitted to a PLC or DCS over the fieldbus . Note that the PFEA111 (without the “2” in the model) does not include fieldbus capability.
Q4: Can this unit operate without a PROFIBUS-DP connection?
Yes. The analog voltage and current outputs function independently, providing tension values even without a fieldbus connection. However, remote diagnostics and tension value logging over PROFIBUS will be unavailable.
Q5: Is hot-swapping supported for the PFEA112-65?
No. The 24 V DC supply must be isolated before disconnection. Hot-swapping is not supported, and transient spikes during live disconnection can disrupt connected load cell electronics.
