Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the primary function of the 3500/45?
It is a 4-channel Position Monitor that accepts input from proximity transducers, RPTs, DC/AC LVDTs, and rotary potentiometers. It conditions the signals to provide axial (thrust) position, differential expansion, case expansion, and valve position measurements, comparing them against user-programmable alarm setpoints for machinery protection.
Q2: What is the difference between 176449-04 and 176449-02?
The 176449-04 is the main card for the 3500/45 Position Monitor, designed for position and displacement measurements (thrust, expansion, valve position). The 176449-02 is the main card for the 3500/42M Proximitor/Seismic Monitor, which handles vibration and seismic measurements. They are not interchangeable.
Q3: How are the channels configured?
The monitor channels are configured in pairs. Channels 1 and 2 can perform one function, while channels 3 and 4 can perform another (or the same) function. Case expansion can only be performed on channels 3 and 4. Each channel can be independently programmed via 3500 Rack Configuration Software.
Q4: What is the difference between the 3500/45 and the 3500/40M?
The 3500/45 is a Position Monitor that accepts a wide variety of position transducers (Proximitor, RPT, LVDT, potentiometer) for thrust position, differential expansion, case expansion, and valve position. The 3500/40M is a Proximitor Monitor designed for proximity transducer inputs only, used primarily for radial vibration and thrust position.
Q5: What firmware and software versions are required?
Adding the 3500/45 to an existing 3500 system requires:
-
3500 Rack Configuration Software 2.41 or higher
-
3500 Data Acquisition 2.20 or higher
-
3500 Operator Display 1.20 or higher
-
Firmware Version G
-
For RPT valve position, 3500 Configuration Software 3.00 or higher is required.
