FAQs

Q1: What is the difference between the 3500/15-05-00-00 and the 3500/15-05-05-00?
The 3500/15-05-00-00 is a single-supply configuration (upper slot only, lower slot empty). The 3500/15-05-05-00 is a dual-supply (redundant) configuration with power supplies installed in both the upper and lower slots. Both use the same 106M1079-01 and 106M1081-01 components.
Q2: What is the difference between 106M1079-01 and 106M1081-01?
The 106M1079-01 is the main power supply module (the "big card") that performs the actual power conversion, delivering regulated DC output to the rack bus. The 106M1081-01 is the Power Input Module (PIM) (the "small card") that provides external AC wiring terminals, EMI filtering, and surge protection. Both are required together to form a complete power supply.
Q3: Can I replace the 106M1079-01 or 106M1081-01 while the rack is running?
Yes, with conditions. If a second power supply is installed in the rack, either the main card or the PIM can be hot-swapped without disrupting rack operation. The remaining supply automatically carries the full load. If only one supply is installed, the rack must be powered down before replacement.
Q4: Is the 106M1079-01 compatible with older 127610-01 power supplies?
No. The 106M1079-01 (Universal AC) is not interchangeable with the legacy 127610-01 (High Voltage AC). They have different input voltage ranges and are not pin-compatible for mixing. A complete legacy or new power supply set can coexist in the same rack with redundant power, but individual modules cannot be mixed.
Q5: What are the common failure symptoms of a 3500/15 power supply?
Common failure indicators include: Supply OK LED not illuminated, rack modules failing to power up, intermittent module dropouts, or rack-wide communication faults. Check the PIM fuse (120M3877) and verify input voltage at the PIM terminals. If the main card is faulty, the entire 106M1079-01 + 106M1081-01 set should be replaced.
