The AO815 is part of the S800 I/O system and is designed for ABB System 800xA DCS and AC 800M controllers. It also supports Freelance systems.
Q2: Does the AO815 support HART communication?
Yes. Each of the 8 output channels features HART pass-through functionality (point-to-point mode), enabling two-way digital communication for remote configuration, calibration, and asset management of smart field instruments. The output filter must be enabled on channels used for HART communication.
Q3: What is the maximum load resistance the AO815 can drive?
The maximum load resistance is 750 Ω. The outputs are short-circuit protected to both ZP and +24 V, and the module will report an external channel error if the output current is less than the set value (when set value >1 mA, indicating an open circuit).
Q4: What diagnostics does the AO815 provide?
The module performs cyclic self-diagnostics, reporting:

The AO815 is a standard module and is not SIL-certified. However, it has ATEX Zone 2 / C1 Div 2 hazardous location certifications. For safety-critical SIL3 applications, ABB offers the AO890 High Integrity module; for intrinsically safe Zone 0/1 installations, the AO895 module is recommended.
