The Foxboro FCM2F2 (RH914YZ) is a fiber-optic Fieldbus Communications Module designed for the Foxboro I/A Series Distributed Control System (DCS). It serves as a baseplate-to-baseplate fiber optic extender, enabling remote installation of 200 Series Fieldbus Modules (FBMs) while maintaining high-speed, noise-immune communication with the central control station. By converting electrical fieldbus signals to optical pulses, the FCM2F2 allows FBMs to be strategically placed close to field devices, replacing long copper cable runs with a single fiber optic pair. This capability significantly reduces installation costs and eliminates the risks of electromagnetic interference, ground loops, and lightning-induced surges associated with traditional copper wiring. The FCM2F2 supports a nominal maximum baseplate-to-baseplate fiber optic distance of 2 km (1.24 miles), making it ideal for large plants, remote I/O cabinets, and electrically noisy industrial environments.
