Q1: What is the primary function of the CI860?
The CI860 is a FOUNDATION Fieldbus HSE communication interface module that connects the AC 800M controller to FOUNDATION Fieldbus HSE subnets. It maps the value and status parts of FF signals to the IEC 61131 application, enabling real-time process control and monitoring .
Q2: Does the CI860 support redundancy?
Yes. The CI860 supports redundant configurations (1+1 module redundancy) for high-availability systems. If the primary module fails, the backup module takes over seamlessly without interrupting communication .
Q3: How is the CI860 powered?
The module is powered directly via the CEX-Bus from the processor unit. No external power supply is required, which simplifies cabinet wiring and reduces installation complexity .
Q4: Can the CI860 be replaced while the system is running?
Yes. The CI860 supports hot-swap capability, allowing module replacement without interrupting system operation. This is particularly valuable in continuous process industries where downtime must be minimized .
Q5: What are the common causes of communication failures with this module?
Common causes include:
CEX-Bus fuse blown – check the fuse inside the CPU unit
Invalid HW configuration – ensure a valid configuration including the CI860 is downloaded to the controller
Ethernet cable issues – check connections for damage or loose connections
Module not configured – verify the FF HSE option license is loaded in Control Builder
