The KL5121 is a single-channel interface terminal from the Beckhoff Bus Terminal series (KL series) for the traditional K-Bus I/O system, designed for direct connection of incremental encoders with position latch and cam controller (switching signal) functionality. It reads the A/B track signals (and optionally the zero pulse), maintains a position counter, and can latch the position on an external trigger as well as generate switching signals at configurable positions. It is a function-rich variant in the KL51xx incremental encoder family; the exact feature differences versus the KL5101, KL5111, and KL5151 should be confirmed in the current Beckhoff datasheet. Unlike EtherCAT terminals (EL series), the KL series communicates via the K-Bus and is typically used with Beckhoff Bus Couplers or Bus Terminal Controllers.
