Q1: What is the difference between a DP/PA Coupler and a DP/PA Link?
A DP/PA Coupler (like the 6ES7157-0AD82-0XA0) connects PA instruments directly to the DP network, but this requires reducing the entire DP network speed to 45.45 kbit/s. A DP/PA Link uses an IM 153-2 interface module with up to 5 couplers, allowing the DP network to operate at full speed (up to 12 Mbps) while the couplers handle PA communications independently .
Q2: Which hazardous areas is this coupler suitable for?
The 6ES7157-0AD82-0XA0 is an Ex [ia] version with intrinsic safety protection. It is suitable for connecting PA devices in Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 hazardous areas. The coupler itself is installed in Zone 2, while the intrinsically safe PA segment can extend into Zone 0/1 .
Q3: How many PA field devices can be connected to this coupler?
The coupler supports up to 31 PA field devices per segment. The maximum output current to PA devices is 110 mA, which limits the number of devices based on their individual current consumption .
Q4: What software is required to configure this coupler?
The coupler is configured using STEP 7 V5.3 SP3 and HSP0095 or higher, SIMATIC PCS 7 V7.0 and higher, or PCS neo V3.1 and higher. For new configurations, STEP 7 V5.5 SP4 and HSP253 or higher is recommended.
