Q1: What is the primary function of this contactor?
The 3RT1075-2AP36 is a power contactor used to switch three-phase induction motors and other high-power loads. It is specifically rated for AC-3 duty (squirrel-cage motor starting and switching), making it suitable for standard motor control applications such as pumps, compressors, and conveyors.
Q2: What does the "AC-3" rating mean?
AC-3 is an utilization category defined in IEC 60947-4-1 for squirrel-cage induction motor starting and switching during normal operation. This means the contactor is designed to handle the high inrush currents that occur when motors start (typically 6-8 times rated current) while maintaining reliable switching performance.
Q3: What is the advantage of the spring-loaded terminal version (-2AP36) over the screw terminal version (-6AP36)?
The spring-loaded terminals offer:
Faster wiring – no screws to tighten, simply insert the conductor
Maintenance-free – no need to re-tighten after thermal cycling
Vibration-proof – ideal for mobile equipment or high-vibration environments
Q4: What is the control supply voltage range for this contactor?
The contactor features a wide-range AC/DC coil rated at 220-240 V AC/DC. This wide voltage range allows the same contactor to be used in different control systems without ordering voltage-specific variants, simplifying inventory management.
Q5: Can this contactor be used in safety-related applications?
The 3RT1075-2AP36 is a standard power contactor and is not certified for safety functions (SIL) on its own. For safety-related applications, it must be used in conjunction with safety relays or fail-safe control architectures that meet the required SIL/PL level. Siemens offers safety-rated contactors and relays for dedicated safety circuits.
