Q1: What is the primary purpose of the EI801F module?
It provides a 10Base2 Ethernet interface for the ABB AC800F controller, enabling communication on the DigiNet S system bus with operator stations, engineering workstations, and other network devices .
Q2: What type of physical connection does the EI801F use?
It uses a BNC coaxial connector for a 10BASE2 ("Thin Ethernet" or "Cheapernet") network . It does not support a standard RJ45 Ethernet cable directly.
Q3: What is the CPU load of this module during operation?
The EI801F uses Direct Memory Access (DMA) technology, resulting in a very low CPU load of less than 4% .
Q4: What is the backup battery used for?
The optional backup battery (e.g., SB808F) preserves the contents of the main RAM memory and the real-time clock in the event of a system power loss, for up to 1.5 years .
Q5: Is the EI801F still available from ABB?
This module is a legacy product that has been largely phased out by ABB in favor of newer Ethernet modules like the EI803F (RJ45) or EI811F (BNC). It is now primarily available through the third-party aftermarket or as used spare parts.
